Naturklima will host a workshop on waste management and new recovery options

The Department of Sustainability of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa and Model2Bio, the European project led by Ceit, will organise a workshop on 19 October at Naturklima on waste management and the bioeconomy as an opportunity for regional development.

On 19 October, the Department of Sustainability of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa and Model2Bio, the European project led by the Ceit technology centre, are organising a workshop on "Waste management and new recovery options: The bioeconomy as an opportunity for regional development". This event, which will bring together leading agents from the agri-food sector and experts in waste management, will be held in the Naturklima building in Eskuzaitzeta (San Sebastian).

R&D in the bioeconomy

In the first block, leading professionals from the agri-food sector, from organisations such as BRTA, Okin, Algaloop, Orloga, Ondoan and Ceit, will share their experiences in research and development in the field of the bioeconomy. Scientific advances related to the reuse of food by-products will be discussed and the fundamental requirements of a circular bioeconomy will be analysed.

A tool to give a second life to by-products

The second block will focus on the presentation of the results of the European project Model2Bio, which has been successfully completed after three years of work. Model2Bio has developed a tool based on an innovative mathematical model, capable of predicting and providing second chances for by-products generated by the agri-food industry, promoting their recycling and reuse.

The main aim of the workshop is to promote dialogue on the sustainable management of by-products in the agri-food industry and to explore the opportunities offered by the bioeconomy for regional development. The deputy for sustainability of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, Jose Ignacio Asensio, will welcome the participants to the workshop, which will be divided into two thematic blocks and will include the participation of recognised experts in the field.

This workshop presents a discussion forum to promote innovative solutions in waste management and the promotion of the bioeconomy as an opportunity for regional sustainable development.
