Ceit appoints new Executive and Corporate Presidents

17 | 04 | 2023

The Governing Board of the Ceit technology centre has appointed Eduardo Ayesa as Executive Chairman and Ignacio Martín as Corporate Chairman.

San Sebastian, 17 April 2023. The Governing Board of Ceit has appointed Eduardo Ayesa Iturrate as Executive President of the centre, replacing José María Rodríguez Ibabe, who has held the position since 2017. The appointment will take effect on 5 May, the date on which José María Rodríguez Ibabe will leave the post due to his retirement.

Ignacio Martín San Vicente, a member of Ceit's Strategic Board since 2014, has also been appointed Corporate President of Ceit, replacing José María Vázquez Eguskiza.

Eduardo Ayesa Iturrate has been a Ceit researcher since 1992, when he obtained his PhD in Industrial Engineering from the University of Navarra. He has participated in more than 100 R&D&I projects, has authored or co-authored more than 200 scientific publications and supervised 12 doctoral theses. Between 2002 and 2018 he directed the Environmental Engineering Group and the Water and Health Division of the centre. He has also actively participated in scientific and technological innovation forums in the water sector throughout his career.

In parallel to his research activity, he is a Collaborating Professor at Tecnun, the School of Engineering of the University of Navarra.

Ceit's Governing Board thanks José María Rodríguez Ibabe for "his years of service to Ceit as a researcher and president", as well as "his leadership, experience and commitment, which have been fundamental for the growth and development of the centre". During the six years of presidency, the centre has been adapted to comply with the 2015 Decree of the Basque Government, which has allowed Ceit to continue to form part of the Basque Network of Technology Centres. In addition to the milestones achieved, perhaps the most important thing has been his example of generosity, commitment and continuous work. A phrase he likes to use can perhaps sum up his legacy: "Ezina, ekinez, egina" (The impossible, if you put your mind to it, is done).

New Corporate President

Ceit's Governing Board has appointed Ignacio Martín San Vicente, director of Repsol and Acerinox and member of Ceit's Strategic Council since 2014, as Corporate President to replace José María Vázquez Eguskiza, also a member of Ceit's Strategic Council for more than 25 years.

Ignacio Martín San Vicente holds a degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Navarra. He has developed his professional career in various companies, mainly in the industrial sector, where he has held positions of the highest responsibility such as executive chairman of Gamesa, CEO of CIE Automotive and independent director of Indra and Bankoa. He has also managed companies such as GSB Grupo, GKN Driveline and Alcatel. Ignacio Martín San Vicente is currently an independent director of Repsol and Acerinox and a visiting professor at Tecnun.

The Governing Board of Ceit would like to thank José María Vázquez Eguskiza for his invaluable collaboration during this time in drawing up proposals and making strategic decisions that are shaping the present and future of Ceit. During this time, the centre has benefited from his extensive experience as an engineer and as president of Giroa Veolia, the Basque Association of Managers and Professionals (ADYPE) and the Bizkaia Business Confederation (CEBEK).
