Metal powder and laser based manufacturing

Bullet Functionalization of surfaces and improvement of surface properties by laser

Ceit is a pioneering center in using femtosecond (ultrashort pulse) lasers to develop industrial applications. This type of lasers allows materials to be processed with micrometric precision and without thermal heating. In its application to the functionalization of surfaces it has been used successfully in:

  • Introduce decorative aspects

  • Increase hydrophobicity

  • Defining precise optical effects

  • Increased durability of parts against friction

  • Increased integration of implants with different tissues

Bullet Metallic additive manufacturing with LMD and Binder Jetting technologies

Bullet Manufacture of metallic powder by spraying with high pressure of water or with gas

Ceit has the ability to produce alloys with a melting point up to 1700 °C in powder form by atomization.

Both standard and experimental compositions for specific applications can be atomized from various families of alloys (steels; nickel, iron or cobalt base superalloys; aluminum alloys; bronzes, brass and other copper-based alloys; magnetic materials, etc.).

Powder properties are tailored according to its use in various sectors (automotive, aeronautical, biomedical, transportation, energy, industrial, etc.) and processing technology (Press and Sinter, Additive Manufacturing, Hot Isostatic Pressing, Hot Pressing, Thermal Spraying, etc.):

  • Composition: Very low levels of oxygen and other impurities.

  • Particle shape: Spherical (gas atomization) or irregular (water atomization).

  • Particle size distribution: Average particle size between 10 and 100 microns.

Bullet Pressed and sintered water spray powder

  • 30 and 100 Tn hydraulic press.

  • Instrumentation. Stress vs. displacement curves.

  • Compaction curves Near Net Shape technologies.

  • Complex Tool design (punches and dies) for metallic and ceramic powders.

  • Cold isostatic pressing.

  • Sintering and presintering furnaces and muffles.

  • Equipments for thermal treatment.

  • Design and control of sintering atmospheres (endogas, exotermic, H2-N2, inert).

  • Measurement of oxygen activity, dew point, CO2, CO, etc.

  • Equipment for thermal shock simulation.

  • High vacuum furnaces for thermal treatment of AM parts (Ti6Al4V and superalloys).

  • Salt furnace. Graphitization furnace up to 3000ºC.

  • Hot uniaxial press (1500ºC-35 MPa).

  • Hot isostatic press HIP (1800ºC-150 MPa).
