We have developed a technology that enables us to create functional surfaces on injection mold inserts creating micro- and nanometric textures by femtosecond laser. Thanks to this process, we have been able to transfer surface functional properties —such as hydrophobicity, complex optical effects, or advanced aesthetic finishes— directly from the mold, without the need of additional treatments. This solution adds value from the design stage, optimizes production processes, and allows companies to differentiate their products efficiently.

Addressed Challenges

When parts are manufactured using injection molding, generating functional surfaces (hydrophobic, with defined optical behavior, or advanced aesthetics) requires costly, imprecise, and difficult-to-reproduce processes, and in some cases results in requirements unattainable with other technologies. This technological asset from Ceit overcomes this limitation using high-precision femtosecond laser micromachining and texturing, enabling the design of inserts with micro- and nanometric geometries that directly transfer functional properties to injected parts, reducing post-processing times and opening new opportunities in product design.
