Researchers Alfonso Brazalez and Olatz Iparraguirre, members of Ceit-IK4’s Transport and Sustainable Mobility group, are immersed in the C-Mobile project, which aims to implement cooperative intelligent transport systems (C-ITS) to meet the challenges of mobility of the future.

Eight European cities are serving as a test bench for vehicle-road connection systems that will orchestrate mobility in the near future. These advances bring us one step closer to the autonomous car or, more simply, no longer having to worry about where to park at our destination.

Ceit, whose research activity in this area focuses on developing Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) for future mobility, leads the deployment of C-ITS services in the city of Bilbao. The researchers work on the communications both inside and outside vehicle and on the road monitoring systems, which will lay the groundwork for the arrival of fully autonomous cooperative driving systems. In addition, they have implemented blind spot detection services to help buses and cyclists share the road, as well as a parking space detection service.
