In the ranking among the 15 applicants for the most international patents

According to the "The OEPM in Figures - 2022" annual report, Ceit was among the 15 Spanish organisations that applied for the most international patents via the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) submitted before the OEPM in 2022. Ceit shares the ranking on this list with the University of Cordoba, The National Distance Education University (UNED), the Foundation for the Promotion of Health and Biomedical Research of the Autonomous Community of Valencia (Fisabio) and the Research Foundation of La Fe University and Polytechnic Hospital of the Autonomous Community of Valencia, each of which requested 7 international patents.

Leader in patents per employee

One aspect that highlights Ceit in the ranking is its outstanding performance in terms of the number of employees. With 240 members of staff, Ceit has managed to become ranked as the leading organisation in terms of patents applied for per number of employees, with a ratio of one request for PCT patent per 34 employees.

Antonio González Prada, Director of Technology Transfer at Ceit, explains how “The main distinguishing feature of the centre lies in our way of conducting research and in our highly skilled research staff. Thanks to our being continuously geared towards tackling problems in industry and improvements in competitiveness, research is not taken into consideration without transfer at Ceit.”

The PCT applications made by Ceit during 2022 were in the following spheres of activity: laser technologies, new materials, non-destructive test techniques, electric machines, robotics and water engineering. For Antonio, this “clearly reflects the multidisciplinary nature of Ceit, which now employs over 100 doctors.”

Additionally, and thanks to one of the patents granted, Ceit has set up a new company that already has he backing of several venture capital shareholders and now joins the list of spin-offs created using technology 100% developed at Ceit.
