The San Sebastian-based company has been recognized as Start-up of the Year by the 2016 Global Excellence Awards

Each year, Info Security Products Guide honours the leading companies in information security. In the 12th annual edition of the awards, San Sebastian-based Enigmedia was named Gold Winner in the Start-up of the Year category. The 2016 Global Excellence Awards 2016 were announced in San Francisco at the same time that Enigmedia was in the city as a participant in the 2016 RSA Conference. These awards honour excellence in every facet of the information security industry, from products to successful companies and the people behind them.

Enigmedia was born in 2011, with Dr. Gerard Vidal at the helm. After studying and working at Tecnun and Ceit-IK4, Vidal completed his PhD in Physics at the University of Navarra’s Faculty of Sciences. The company is dedicated to the encryption of information in real time, making it possible to deliver secure videoconferencing more efficiently.

Dr. Pedro Crespo, professor at Tecnun and associate director at Ceit-IK4, sits on Enigmedia’s Scientific Committee. For Crespo “the company’s success is due to the founder’s original and brilliant idea in the field of information encryption. Gerard arrived at his idea and the final development of that idea by knowing how to take advantage of the knowledge he had of disparate areas such as Information Theory from the field of Communications and Chaos Theory from the field of Physics.” Despite the importance of the Global Excellence Award, Crespo views it as any other recognition: “This award is another confirmation of the start-up’s cutting-edge technology, and it joins the many other honours the company has received since it was created.”
