Projects
HYINHEAT
Hydrogen Technologies for Decarbonization of Industrial Heating Processes

Summary
HyInHeat boosts the decarbonization of heating and fusion processes in the aluminium and steel industries via the implementation of efficient hydrogen combustion systems. The project is involved in practically the entire chain of industrial processes, including the redesign, modification and integration of furnaces, burners, measurement and control technologies and associated infrastructures. These solutions will be validated in eight demonstrations located both in technology centres and real industrial plants.
Objective
The aim of the project is to contribute towards the decarbonization of industries with high energy consumption via the replacement of fossil fuels with hydrogen in high-temperature heating processes. It is hoped that the results will significantly reduce CO₂ emissions, increase energy efficiency and improve economic competitiveness. Additionally, special attention is paid to the sustainability of critical processes, the behaviour of refractory linings and NOx emission control deriving from combustion with hydrogen.
