FP3 – IAM4RAIL
Holistic and Integrated Asset Management for Europe’s RAIL System

Summary
IAM4RAIL focuses on seven integrated demonstrations that cover different key rail assets for the purpose of research and innovation in the sector. Its approach combines information obtained about the state of assets via advanced monitoring using decision-making tools that are integrated into the traffic management system (TMS). Technologies such as artificial intelligence and digital twins are essential, while robotics and additive manufacturing help to optimise the management of rail assets.
The project encourages a holistic, integrated and interoperable European approach, seeking to bring rail systems into line on a continental level and promote the transfer of solutions with a view to setting out a common framework in asset management.
Objective
Provide innovative techniques, methods, solutions and services – including standards and specifications for future developments – based on advanced technologies, with a view to minimising costs incurred in the course of the assets’ life cycle and prolonging their lifespan, while meeting safety requirements and improving the reliability, availability and capacity of the rail system. The project covers both the infrastructure and rolling stock.
