CIRIAMET

Smart technologies to promote metal circularity in the new generation of end-of-life vehicles

Summary

The CirIAMet project aims to advance the development of smart technologies based on artificial intelligence (AI) to improve the sorting, separation, recovery, and valorisation of valuable metals from the recycling of the new generation of End-of-Life Vehicles (ELVs). The initiative seeks to increase circularity and competitiveness of the Basque industrial sector, promoting the ecological, social, and digital transition through the incorporation of innovative recycling and valorisation solutions for metallic materials. CirIAMet combines fundamental and applied knowledge across different stages of the metal value chain, including material recycling, automated sorting, smelting, and modelling processes, to ensure that the results are transferable to industry and generate real impact in terms of efficiency and sustainability.

Objectives

Advance the development of AI-based smart technologies for: Sorting, separation, and recovery of valuable metals in ELV recycling. Valorisation of metallic materials to increase circularity. Improve the competitiveness of the Basque industrial sector. Promote the ecological, social, and digital transition through innovative recycling solutions.
