Bio-inspired laser functionalization of complex 3D industrial surfaces

 
 
 

Summary

Surface functionalization improves the performance of numerous components and systems, although its application in complex industrial parts gives rise to technical and environmental challenges as well as those linked to integration. BILASURF focuses on the development and integration of a high-speed laser functionalization process for medium-sized and large 3D parts and those with complex geometries. Bio-inspired, customised riblets will be used to reduce friction and improve the sustainability of parts, combining these solutions with online monitoring capacities to ensure high performance. 

 

Objectives

  • Develop and integrate a high-speed laser functionalization process for complex 3D parts.  
  • Implement bio-inspired, customised riblet designs to reduce friction and improve the environmental impact of industrial components. 
  • Ensure high performance via online monitoring systems
