REFRACT, a technological solution to adapt refractory materials to new industrial processes aimed at decarbonization, such as combustion with green hydrogen. In addition, we are researching the development of a recycling process for used refractory materials to incorporate recovered material into new formulations. This dual line of work helps reduce emissions, improve the sustainability of thermal processes, and offer more efficient alternatives for sectors such as steelmaking, cement, or industrial furnace manufacturing.

Challenges Addressed

REFRACT tackles the challenge of adapting refractory materials to new industrial decarbonization processes, such as using green hydrogen as an alternative energy source to fossil fuels at various stages of steel, aluminum, or ceramic material production. Moreover, it promotes the reuse of recycled raw materials from end-of-life linings, reducing the carbon footprint associated with mineral extraction and fostering a circular economy in refractory material manufacturing.
